  • Jo Malone Poppy & Barley Launch

Jo Malone Poppy & Barley Launch

I am pretty sure that I made Josh jump up a foot in the middle of Kalakaua Avenue (Honolulu, HI) when I received a message from Anicea at Jo Malone London River Oaks asking if I would like to host an event for the release of their new scent, Poppy and Barley! Of course, I said YES!!! Let me tell you, the event was every thing that I envisioned.

Anicea was an absolute doll to work with throughout the entire planning process. Teacups & Saucers provided us with delectable light bites such as matcha cupcakes, dark chocolate & earl grey mousse, smoked salmon tartare, and a gourmet ham and toast. She also provided an amazing hand blended Elderflower, Lavender & Chamomile iced tea. If you know me, you know that I am usually not a huge fan of tea, but I love every tea that Nadita serves! She is truly the ultimate tea party queen! Bombshell Macarons made the most delectable macarons that I’ve tasted! She customized flavors to go with our event theme, and let me tell you, I couldn’t pick a favorite flavor! With custom flavors being lemon poppy, lavender honey and raspberry rose, how can you pick a favorite?! Maranda does an amazing job at coming up with her unique flavor combinations. I can honestly say, her macrons do not last 2 minutes in our home. Seriously, 2 dozen gone in a matter of minutes… Perkins family approved! Please click on their links and give these fellow mom-bosses some love! They absolutely ROCK!!!

To everyone who came out to support me, THANK YOU!!! Huge shout out to Bubbles & Blooms! Even though they could not make the event, they provided a gorgeous arrangement for the event and were there in spirit. I wish that I had pictures with everyone, but I had an amazing time visiting with everyone and was intrigued with the different scents everyone picked and layered to make their signature scent unique!

Anicea was amazing and brought in another neighboring business in the River Oaks district for our bubbles that night!! Our bartender was the nicest and made sure our sparkling rose was topped off for our toasts and happy hour during the event. Huge shout out to Ouzo Bay and Loch Bar for the celebratory bubbles and for an amazing time after the event! My husband and I cannot wait to come back and eat for date night! You know that this Cajun girl approves any restaurant who cooks whole fish, has an oyster bar, and uses the “good cornmeal batter” on their fried food!

In case you were wondering if the new Jo Malone London fragrance is as divine as the rest of their scents? Well of course it is! With notes of black currant, poppy and barley, it is the perfect balance of crisp floral with a musky/woodsy undertone. I have to say that Poppy and Barley is my second favorite scent under Peony & Blush Suede (because peonies are my favorite). If you haven’t had the Jo Malone London experience yet, please do yourself a favor and immerse yourself into the realm of luxurious scents. Here is a boutique locator, you wont be disappointed! If you would like information on hosting an event in the Jo Malone London River Oaks boutique, please contact Anicea at 832-297-4471.

  • Indigo Labor Day Sale!

    Indigo Labor Day Sale!

If you have seen my stories, you know that I promised you a sneak peek on what I’ve ordered from one of my favorite online boutiques, Shop Indigo Closet! Please remember to use code LABORDAY to get BOGO on the entire site… plus a free gift with purchase… plus a coupon code for 40% off your next purchase!! It’s such a great deal!!! If you are reading this after Labor Day, you can always use code MITZI20 for 20% off your entire purchase! So let’s get started!!

This Penelope Romper is the perfect transition piece as we head into fall. Especially for those of us who have to deal with the hot Houston heat until at least November! I love the way this romper fits and plan to transition it by adding booties and a cardigan as we head into slightly milder weather!

The one thing that I have to rave about is that this boutique knows how to pick bodysuits!!! This Hannah Henley bodysuit is perfection! I love that it is lightweight (because, Texas). This bodysuit runs TTS or you can always size up for a slightly looser fit!

This Hilda bodysuit is the perfect fall piece! I purchased it to pair with black denim (or shorts). I adore this color and love that I can dress it up or down depending on my plans. This bodysuit also runs TTS (true to size).

These Ginger Jeans are everything!! I had a similar pair last year but the button fell off and since I purchased them on Amazon, and the shop disappeared, I’m pretty sure I paid full price for a one-off. I ordered these to replace last year’s pair and they are by my favorite denim brand. I know that I always rave about them being true to size, but these do run about a size small so you will want to size up!

Last is this Maven Cardigan! I am hoping that we get some pretty cool temps soon because this cardigan is life!!! Seriously, it is so soft and thick that it reminds me of a much, much more expensive brand! The herringbone print takes this neutral to the next level! I can see myself wearing it with my lounge wear as well as how it is pictured above! (Even if I have to turn my AC down, light my fireplace and pretend like it is nice and wintery outside!!!)

    Happy Shopping!!!

  • Pink Cake Mix Cookies

    Pink Cake Mix Cookies

I know that I have taken a huge break when it comes to keeping my blog current. Life just handed our family a curve ball and I had to step away and focus on our family for a little while. Towards the end of our summer, I became so tired of our grocery bill, that I decided to pull out some old recipes and bake in order to make snacks stretch in our home and trying to get our grocery bill down in anticipation for the upcoming back to school stock up!

These little pink cookies have been a favorite in our home for years. I’m not sure where the recipe originated from, I just remember that my mom made a bunch of them for her sister’s 50th wedding anniversary celebration and we have been baking them since! Please note that you can use this recipe with any flavored cake mix, my people refuse to deviate from their strawberry/pink cookies!

    • 1 box of cake mix
    • 1 8oz container of whipped topping
    • 1 egg
    • Powdered Confectioners Sugar
    • Parchment lined baking sheet

Preheat your oven to 350° and line your baking sheets with parchment. In a bowl, combine the cake mix and cool whip. I like to blend these two ingredients first before I add the egg. After these three ingredients are combined, spoon out 1 tbsp. of dough and drop into a bowl of powdered sugar (about 1/2 cup). Thoroughly coat each ball in the sugar and place on baking sheet about 2 inches apart.

Bake for approximately 12-15 minutes until the edges are a slight golden brown. Let cool on cookie sheet for at least 10 minutes and then I usually slide the parchment off of the pan and onto my granite counter top and allow them to completely cool. Honestly, I am lazy and don’t want to clean up a powdered sugar mess by transferring to a cooling rack and it doesn’t make that much of a difference in how these cookies cool. Enjoy!!

  • Letter to My Younger Self

    Letter to My Younger Self

    Dear Mitzi,

Girlfriend, embrace yourself. Your weight doesn’t matter! Muscle weighs more than fat, your body was never meant to be a size 2, and those diet pills are just destroying your metabolism. When you are going to need to lose a few pounds later in life, you are going to have to work three times as hard to get the weight off (and you do not have to weigh yourself twice a day). Live life according to the 80/20 rule. Eat clean and healthy 80% of the time but enjoy that damn cookie and ice cream with your babies.

Don’t worry what others think. Wear what you want. You do not need your friends approval before you decide whether or not you will wear an outfit. Find your style and embrace it. Don’t go out searching for the latest on-trend top. Believe me, you will wear some things that will be absolutely hideous because it was “on trend.” You will waste so much money on hideous clothing. Please save and buy quality staples!!! Also, start shopping in boutiques ASAP! You will love shopping local and buying unique pieces and falling in love with brands that you will wear and continue to buy for years to come.

Remember how quiet you are, please speak up. Defend yourself, defend others… don’t let anyone use you or walk all over you. I can guarantee you that those “friends” will not be in your life for long. Your future self is telling you to speak up for yourself! Don’t wait until you are 30 and 3 kids in to learn how to speak up and defend yourself. If you start to see red flags pop up when it comes to friendships, you are not obligated to remain friends with that person. THEY. WILL. DRAIN. YOU. Also, you will meet some amazing people, keep in touch with them. Some of those people will be your best friend for a season, life will happen, but you will carry those people in your heart forever.

You will have 4 beautiful and amazing sons that will love you hard and drive you crazy. You will be an amazing boy mom and rock it.

Lean on your girlfriends when you need them. Those girls will accept you for who you are. They will come and scoop up your kids without asking and love them like their own. They will tell you to book the damn trip that is very much needed with your husband. You will have the best and most random driveway drink parties with them. They will be there when you need to vent about your bad day and you will cry with them and for them while you support each other through hard times. You will take shots and scream #fuckcancer while you see your loved ones struggling.

Yea, you know that part about crying and taking shots while screaming #fuckcancer? As soon as you move four hours away, your mama will be diagnosed with cancer. It will be seven years of feeling like you are on a roller coaster and it will effing suck watching her suffer from afar. You take those monthly trips back, you let her rock and love on those babies…. and you let her sugar those boys up and spoil them as much as she wants. They need all of the memories that they can pack into their little minds, because she will be gone before your oldest hits the double digits and you will all miss her terribly.

You will sit back at 34 and realize that life is short. Hugs and memories with your kids are everything. Friendships will take on a whole new meaning. Positive people and thinking will be everything. You will learn to live and treasure life and moments for what they are. You will realize that what you and your husband have is special. That not everyone gets the privilege of marrying their best friend. Continue to feed and nurture that friendship because it will make your marriage that much stronger. Love hard, be humble, sprinkle kindness around like confetti and don’t forget the most important part, laugh. Laugh until tears trickle down your face (and legs) and never lose that joie de vivre that has always been in your soul.

    xoxo- Me

  • Shop Indigo Closet

    Shop Indigo Closet

Hey ya’ll! I am so excited to be publishing this blog post! My goal was to have this up by Sunday, but I have had some sick little fellas that I needed to get well and back on a schedule! Any who… I wanted to share some new looks with you guys! I have recently teamed up with Shop Indigo Closet and let me tell you, I am in love with this boutique!! Use the code MITZI20 for 20% off your entire purchase.

I have to say that I loved everything that I purchased. I was hesitant about this Buddy Love bodysuit, but it ended up being one of my favorites! I just love the vintage feel and the ties on the shoulders. It is a lower cut than I usually go for, but I was totally comfortable in it (with the help of a little wardrobe tape). I will probably throw on this bralette when I wear it next because I love the extra coverage and detail that it gives.

Next up are these white distressed denim pants. I originally purchased them to wear with the bodysuit above, but I ended up pairing with something a little higher waisted. This brand of denim is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE denim! I may or may not have giggled and danced a little when I saw this brand on her site!! I seriously have at least 10+ pairs in all colors, rises and levels of distressing. They have the perfect amount of stretch and they hold their shape so well. This is my first pair of mid rise, and they are just as comfortable and fit as well as my higher rise pairs.

This Esmeralda maxi is perfection. Seriously, the pictures do not do it justice! I am picky when it comes to long dresses. I don’t want to wear a long summer dress that is going to make me sweat. I may as well wear jeans if that is the case! This dress however, it’s flowy, it’s breezy and cool! I first tried it on at Babechella and fell in love. When I partnered with Shop Indigo Closet, I knew that this dress would be included in my first purchase! There are two slits in the front and two in back to give you the whimsical and flowy look that literally makes it perfect for that beach/tropical vacation. I cannot wait to bring this little number with me to Hawaii at the end of the month!

There is one other bodysuit that I received from Shop Indigo Closet. However, I was unable to get shots in it before I wrote this post. The Rylee Ruffle bodysuit is so comfortable! It is currently sold out, but I was told that it will more than likely be restocked in a different color soon! I had every intention on wearing it to the Fomo Factory and getting some really good shots in it, but life and sick kiddos happen. If you follow me on my Instagram, I will be posting a shot of me in it soon!

So there you have it, do yourself a favor and check out all of the darling pieces over at Shop Indigo Closet and don’t forget to use the code MITZI20 for 20% off!

    Hi Everyone!

I hope that you are having a wonderful Friday. Our family is looking forward to a relaxing weekend with hardly anything on our schedule. The last few weekends have been uber busy and we are looking forward to finally scratching some things off of our to-do lists and enjoy some family time!

First thing on our list is to take the boys to La Centerra tomorrow because the Pizza Planet truck will be at Alamo Drafthouse. We were unable to get movie tickets to the family party, so we plan on catching a different showing, but our Toy Story obsessed kids are so excited to see the Pizza Planet truck in person!!!

I also plan to catch up on a few blog posts, so click the link at the top of this post and follow me on Blog Lovin so that you can subscribe and be in the know when I publish new posts!

  • Houston Blogger Babes

    Houston Blogger Babes

If you would have told me six months ago that I would jump into this blogging thing full force, I would have laughed! Seriously, I organize the chaos that surrounds raising 4 boys, a husband, 2 dogs, a rabbit and a 20 gallon fish tank. At that time, I still worked at a local boutique part time and J was working longer hours at his main office on the far end of town. I barely had time to keep up the house, where would I find the time to add blogging into my schedule?

Tara Carr dropped into the store a few times and hosted an informative night on the power of social media and talked to us about the new and upcoming Houston Blogger Babe chapter, I brought it up to a few friends and they were like “Mitzi, you need to do this! It’s so you, you need to set up a public Instagram page and share your million tips.” I thought they were crazy, but I created the public page and joined the blogger babe group. I took a leap out of my comfort zone and started a new journey that has been backed by not only my amazing tribe, but the all encompassing and empowering women of this blogger babe group. I never thought that I would have my own blog or IG following. Why am I writing this? Well because I know that I am not the only one who feels this way. This is my way of persuading you to take a leap, jump off of the cliff and just do it. I’m writing this because I, myself, have a few friends who are contemplating on starting a blog while trying to balance a family and work life as well. This is me telling you to do it! If it doesn’t pan out, well at least you can say that you tried (and quite franky, I believe that you will be immensely successful). Yes, girlfriend! I’m talking to you!

If you are just beginning and don’t really know where to start, join a blogger group. I can attest that the Houston Blogger Babe chapter is a great one! This group has been a wealth of information as well as empowering. Not to mention, some really great friendships have been formed within the group and for that I am grateful! If you are a local Houston area blogger on the fence about joining, DO IT! Just wait until you see my upcoming post on our latest Babechella event! It was AMAZING!!!

Details to this outfit have been posted on my 21 buttons page! Click Here
  • Father’s Day Gift Ideas

    Father’s Day Gift Ideas

My husband may be the pickiest man on earth to buy for. He is more into buffing kits for car detailing, car parts and specialty tools. I don’t even know where to start to look for any of that! So here are a few things that I have added to my shopping list for the manly man who says that he wants nothing for Father’s Day!

    1. Beer Savers

On the rare occasion that he has to leave half of a beer to do something, these beer savers would come in handy and prevent spills. They are under $10 and the perfect gadget to add to the gift bag!

    2. Membership to a Whiskey Trail

As much as he would love to visit the Kentucky bourbon trail, it’s just not in our travel plans right now. After some research, I discovered that Texas has their own trail. There are different levels of membership starting from free to $110 annually. This is perfect for us since the gulf coast trail is literally at our back door!

    3. Ball Wash

I think that this entire concept is hilarious! We love to joke around in our house and I think that this Ballwash would be hysterical to unwrap! Plus it is at a good price point at $15-50. My only reservation is that 3/4 of my boys can both read and shower in our bathroom. This wash may not last long in our male dominated house…

    4. Cajun Crate

I married a West Texan, but you would swear that he is a full blooded Cajun (minus the accent). Over the last few years, he has shadowed me and learned how to make almost everything and has mastered it! I’m not complaining because that means that I don’t have to cook. Ha! Cajun crate is the perfect subscription box ($39) for us to try all of the new products that we aren’t privy to buying all the way in Texas! (There is a serious lack of Cajun products out here!)

    5. Lowball Glasses

This “The Good Shit” Lowball glass from Fleurty Girl is the perfect addition to our bar cabinet. Some nights, we love to put the boys to bed and enjoy a drink and a movie and enjoy a little date night at home. This glass is just begging for a whiskey on the rocks and my hubby likes to drink just that from time to time!

I hope these ideas help you to shop for your guy as well! I had so much fun researching each of these products… now to figure out which ones to order for Father’s Day and which to order for his birthday in September!

  • Memorial Day Road Trip

    Memorial Day Road Trip

What happens when a Cajun girl marries a West Texas boy? You develop a love for a medium rare steak, brisket with a good smoke ring and an acquired taste for good BBQ. Saturday morning, Josh told us to be ready in 20 minutes because we were going on a road trip. We decided to add a stamp to our Texas Monthly top 50 book by trying the original Truth BBQ in Brenham.

Let me tell you, the hour wait was more than worth it! J waited in line for food while I waited in the car with the boys. We definitely ranked it in our top 5!

I am pretty picky when it comes to BBQ sauce, my father in law taught me how to make our family sauce recipe when J and I were dating. This girl right here has been making our own BBQ sauce for at least 12 years. Truth’s original recipe is good, but their tangy mustard sauce is AH-MAZING with their pulled pork!

We ended our trip with a trip to the Southern Flyer Diner and enjoyed some Blue Bell ice cream while we watched planes take off. Seriously, you have to stop here if you are in Brenham. Its a 50’s diner with a screened in back patio right on the runway of a small airport. My boys LOVED watching the planes take off! On our way home, we stopped by the Blue Bell Factory for some pictures and promised the boys that we would return on a weekday for a tour and a treat!

  • My Biggest Job in Life

    My Biggest Job in Life

My nephew recently shared this video to Facebook and it really hit home for me. We live in a day and age where it’s always important to share the best of the best. I am guilty of doing this, but I always will try to make a conscious effort to share things that we are struggling with as well.

My biggest job in life is to make sure that I raise hard working, compassionate, thoughtful and loving boys. If they don’t make good grades but worked really damn hard, that is ok. If they gave 100% on the field but didn’t win, that’s ok. If they don’t want to play sports and want to be on the robotics team, that’s ok. If they don’t want to go to college and pick up a trade, that’s ok. I want them to know that money isn’t everything and the real impact that you have on someone’s life is the memories that you leave them with. Money doesn’t matter, memories do.

When my mom passed, the one thing that touched my heart the most were the ladies who came up to us during her quick stay in hospice and at her funeral. Those ladies came up and hugged us and let us know that my mama took them under her wing. They were the new kids in school, they didn’t have any friends and my mom took them under her wing and became friends with them. Some of those ladies she kept in contact with on and off for years, another she reconnected with closer to the end of her illness. That is the impact that I want to leave on this earth and pass onto my boys. To always be kind, to treat others how they want to be treated. That you can be inclusive and be apart of more than one group. That even though you may be friends for a short season, you left that person with a kind impression of yourself.

Money, trophies and popularity won’t be what you are remembered for. It is nice to celebrate these moments but they won’t be what you are most remembered for. Trophies are nice in the moment, but then they collect dust in the attic. Be the one that is remembered for being kind, being compassionate and being inclusive. You never know what the other person is going through. This is my biggest job and I can only hope that when they fly out of the nest, they soar.
